Service & maintenance

A fire system is not a “fit and forget” solution. It requires regular servicing to ensure it performs when it’s needed most.

In line with SANS 10139, fire detection systems should be serviced at least every 6 months, with more frequent inspections recommended for high-risk or specialised environments. In practice, this is the standard expected across South Africa to maintain system reliability and meet insurer requirements.

During a service, every device is physically checked and tested to ensure it is functioning correctly. We verify the full system architecture, including cause and effect functions such as alarms, shutdowns, and integrations with other systems. This ensures that the system responds exactly as intended in the event of an incident.

Once complete, a detailed report is issued outlining the condition and performance of the system. Where everything is in order and no repairs are required, a service certificate is provided. This serves as a record that the system has been properly maintained and is operating as expected.

Regular servicing not only keeps your system compliant, but significantly reduces faults, false alarms, and unexpected failures over time.

Compliance & certification

Compliance is what turns a fire system into a reliable, accountable life safety system.

At Phoenix Fire Solutions, we are fully accredited across installation, commissioning, and design for both fire detection and gas suppression systems. This ensures that every stage of the system, from concept through to final handover, is carried out correctly and in line with SANS regulations.

Upon completion of a new installation or major upgrade, there are three key certifications that should be in place:

  • Design Certificate – Confirms that the system has been designed in accordance with the relevant SANS standards and is suitable for the risk.
  • Installation Certificate – Verifies that the system has been installed correctly as per the approved design.
  • Commissioning Certificate – Confirms that the system has been fully tested, programmed, and is operating as intended.

These documents form the backbone of your system’s compliance. Without them, there is no formal confirmation that the system has been designed, installed, or set up correctly. In the event of an incident, this can leave you exposed.

Ongoing compliance is just as important. Regular servicing, supported by up-to-date service certificates, ensures that the system continues to meet required standards and remains dependable over time.

When everything is properly certified and maintained, you’re not just meeting requirements — you’re ensuring that your system will perform when it truly matters.
